Your Invitations Awaits!

Used with permission from The Biltmore Company, Asheville, North Carolina

Mark your calendar for April 17-19, 2018 for the IARFC Biltmore Conference held on the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. Opportunities will be available to network, attend CE sessions and judge the Finals of the IARFC National Financial Plan Competition while enjoying the lavish Biltmore Mansion, grounds and gardens.

“We chose the Biltmore Estate for the combination of a beautiful backdrop and the successful entrepreneurial spirit of the Vanderbilt’s,” related IARFC Chairman H. Stephen Bailey, MRFC. “It’s not your ordinary big city convention-type visit. At the Biltmore you can attend your CE sessions, relax in the mountain setting and appreciate the splendor of a unique period of history.”

The event begins on Tuesday April 17, with a reception for attendees and vendors to register and network. CE sessions and the Finals of the National Financial Plan Competition are scheduled for Wednesday April 18. A banquet later Wednesday evening will feature the announcement of the winners of the Plan Competition, Association award presentations and a keynote speaker. Thursday, April 18 brings more CE session. Vendors on hand throughout the conference to promote their products and services. A full agenda of times and speakers will be available soon.

Attendees will have ample time to explore the Biltmore mansion and take advantage of the activities offered by the family-friendly 8,000 acre Biltmore resort. Special rates for the Village Hotel inside the complex are on a first come, first serve basis. These casual style accommodations are located next to the Winery, dining, shopping & outdoor activities. Upgrades are available for the 4 star Biltmore Inn if desired for a more pampered stay. Shuttles run conveniently to conference venues and Biltmore attractions.

The “jewel” of the estate was the dream of George Vanderbilt, grandson of famed industrialist and philanthropist Cornelius Vanderbilt. In 1888, he first visited Asheville, NC and the Blue Ridge Mountains with his mother and knew he had found the perfect location for his country home. In 1889, construction began on the Vanderbilt’s 250-room French Renaissance chateau – a true marvel in residential architecture. It provided, over a six-year period, a unique working environment for an entire community of craftsmen. The house is open for tours with discounted tickets available for conference attendees and their guests.

“We are excited to welcome members, non-members and their guests to our conference next year,” said Susan Cappa, IARFC Public Relations. “We look forward to our ‘IARFC Biltmore Conference experience’. There is a fun-for-all-ages-appeal to this event.”.

This approval rating process is just one of the programs we offer to our Association consultants.”

To obtain this level of confidence, the IARFC Team reviews all RFC®, RFA® membership renewals submitted to the Association and rewards members for their long-term commitment to the IARFC Code of Ethics. They check FINRA records, state licensing records and even conduct an internet search of each member’s name. Registration for the 2018 National Financial Plan Competition is open!

The IARFC extends its invitation to professors and their undergraduate students enrolled in Financial Services curriculum to participate in the production of a comprehensive personal financial plan based on uniform sample data provided.

“Education is the underlying factor in our competition,” advises IARFC Chairman H. Stephen Bailey, RFC®. “Students need to understand how to present to a real client, in the real world with a real case scenario. Developing a financial plan is the core of what we do.”

The competition allows for extensive learning opportunities. Individual students or teams of two are sent a fictional case study to do the following:

(1) initially develop a personal financial plan following submission guidelines,

(2) as a semi-finalist present the plan via webinar to a panel of financial professionals and finally

(3) as a finalist explain their conclusions live in front of experienced consultants.

The National Financial Plan Competition relies on Corporate Sponsorship and individual sponsorship from its members. These members are very interested in helping students in financial programs have a problem solving real world experience – the financial plan being a basic product for a client. The competition also provides opportunities for students to network and gain insight from successful financial services professionals.

The IARFC is now accepting participation agreements from educators who feel this is a challenge and a worthwhile project for their students. In 2018 the finalist, accompanied by their professor, will be presenting their plans in person to a panel of judges in Asheville, NC at the IARFC Spring Conference, April 17-19.

Deadline for Participation Agreements and Registration Fees is September 1, 2017.

Our Board of Directors concluded another successful annual Board Meeting in Charlotte, NC on March 15th. The agenda for moving forward in 2017 will be an aggressive membership drive, final application to the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) for its Master Registered Financial Consultant (MRFC) credential and a dedicated strengthening of connection to the International Chapters.

Board Directors in attendance included:

  • Chairman H. Stephen Bailey – HB Financial Resources, LTD in Charlotte, NC;
  • Vice Chairman Nicholas A. Royer – Group 10 Financial, LLC in Maitland, FL;
  • Treasurer Jon M. Rogers – Rogers Financial Group, LLC in Greenville, SC;
  • President Peter J. D’Arruda – Capital Financial Advisory Group, LLC in Apex, NC;
    Secretary Michelle K. Blair – Farmingville, NY;
  • Isabel Cooper – Edelman Financial in Ashburn, VA;
  • James B. Moss – Money Concepts in Indianapolis, IN;
  • Rick B. Stanzione – R&R Group in Washington Terrace, UT; and
  • Mayo M. Woodward – Birmingham, AL.

All the current Executive Officers Royer, Rogers, D’Arruda and Blair were re-elected to their current positions.

A Packed Agenda
20170314 - _MG_1042Through two days of agenda, the Board tackled issues facing the Association with innovative and experience-laden solutions. As its number one priority and recognizing membership as the obvious core, quality time was spent on enhancing these relationships. The Board wishes to be a partner by meeting consultants’ needs and adding value to their membership – a very key focus.

Important to both the Association and consumers alike, the second goal is dedicated to completing the accreditation process and after approval marketing a credential that will elevate the status of its professionals. Finalizing the Master Registered Financial Consultant (MRFC) credential has the full backing of the Board along with development of a Study Guide for candidates to take the required exam.

“Credentials are important to us and to those we do business with too,” related the newly elected Board Member Rick Stanzione. “Ethics, integrity and service make us hold our standards to a fiduciary standard. We elect to raise our OWN bar.”

The third goal component is a redefinition of the important bond with international chapters. The Board seeks to connect with the IARFC offshore community on a personal level this year and reinvigorate their dedication and commitment to developing Registered Financial Consultants in their own countries. Understanding their needs, on their level, with their financial professionals and then integrating the US-based programs will result in winning relationships.

“Our directors and our home office team are committed to goals that will increase the visibility and expand the IARFC in ways beyond the scope of our projections,” relates IARFC Chairman H. Stephen Bailey. “I am extremely pleased at the progress made at our meeting. I gratefully salute everyone for their hard work, their experienced suggestions and their foresight.”

ImpactBrandBuilding Your Impact Brand

Branding for the financial professional is not trying to compete on a giant scale of actions such as Coca Cola or Mercedes. It is burning the consultant’s image and competence into the minds of prospects and clients in everything that is presented to them no matter what size company.  The snapshot that one projects to the public should be carried through to the smallest detail – an effective campaign of keeping the identity.

This white paper discusses the importance of Branding and the first impression.  Branding can set the stage even before the consultant shows up on the scene.  It also defines the individual at each step of the client relationship.  The importance of visually impacting the client is something every consultant needs to understand and refine. Topics covered in detail help the consultant understand, build and maintain their professional footprint.
